Beyond Green are a B Corp certified environmental consultancy who use their expertise and knowledge to help businesses on their journey to Net Zero. They engage with businesses in a way that allows them to understand the issues, have informed discussions and make informed decisions about the future direction of their business. This includes aligning actions with the Sustainable Development Goals. Beyond Green’s services have allowed clients to significantly reduce their carbon emissions.

Beyond Green have grown their client base with a dedicated Net Zero service that engages Board members with long-term strategic decision making, scenario planning, option appraisal and transferring knowledge and skills across their businesses to keep their Net Zero roadmap on track.

During 2020-2021, their practical support to 135 businesses has helped identify over £1m in annual cost savings, and 2,770tCO2e in carbon reduction. They have helped a construction business move beyond scopes 1-2 to embrace calculating scope 3 for materials, and previously helped another business progress with their circular economy practices.

Beyond Green manage their own environmental performance by measuring their key environmental and carbon impacts. Over the period 2019-2020, they reduced their overall carbon impact by almost 50%. Working during the pandemic changed the way they operate, and a number of initiatives introduced had the benefits of reducing their costs (office costs by £15,000 and travel costs by £2,550), while maintaining their high standard of service to their clients, as expressed by a recent client:

"The Beyond Green team and the supportive approach they undertook with our teams across the College allowed us to create a detailed analysis of our carbon footprint and to identify options and recommendations to reduce our carbon emissions by 40% by 2030 and to achieve carbon net zero status by 2045. This policy was adopted and approved by our College Council in October 2021. This could only have been achieved by the evidenced based approach that Paul and his team undertook with us and to develop our strategic options going forward. An exemplary piece of strategic work, representing excellent value for money for which we are enormously grateful to Paul and his team at Beyond Green.” - Dr Steve Graham, CEO of Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Glasgow

They also measured their performance against the Sustainable Development Goals and in 2020 made a particular effort to improve their score across a number of goals where they had the lowest performance. Progress was made with these goals, and their overall progress in relation to the SDGs was significant, from 10% in 2019 to 28% in 2020 (verified via their B Corp certification in November 2021).

Their commitment to staff and clients’ wellbeing is reflected in their adoption in 2020 of an accessibility pilot which will allow the team and clients to discuss accessibility issues without invasive questions. They have since become a Disability Confident Employer, in 2021. They have also introduced a Wellbeing policy, reflecting the additional pressures experienced by staff during the pandemic and providing additional support.

Beyond Green also have a volunteering policy, enabling staff to use paid time to volunteer in projects that align with the businesses values and purpose. One team member, for example, volunteered with a reforestation charity to review their carbon footprint calculation methodologies. This allows for a more accurate assessment of their clients’ requirements for offsetting carbon emissions. In addition, Beyond Green supports local charities by donating old IT Equipment to PeopleKnowHow and the Remakery.

Registered charities or not-for-profit organisations whose purpose and initiatives support the Sustainable Development Goals involved in carbon reduction projects, benefit from reduced fees. Beyond Green has supported organisations in healthcare and the creative arts, as well as social enterprises, humanitarian projects and other organisations that work in the public interest.

Beyond Green is an organisation that demonstrates a strong commitment to a set of values that apply equally to its own activities, and to those of its clients.
