Vision in Business for the Environment of Scotland (VIBES) Awards 2010 were launched on Tuesday 16 March at the Scottish Parliament in Edinburgh.

Rob Gibson MSP hosted the event, and presentations were given by Con Kerwin, the Environment Director of William Tracey Group, Calum MacDonald of the Scottish Environment Protection Agency and David Douglas of Robert Wiseman & Sons Ltd, a previous VIBES Award winner.

VIBES Top Ten Tips

VIBES ten top tips on how to produce an award-winning entry:

1. Read application form, then read it again.
    
2. Read guidance notes thoroughly – provide information that is asked for.
    
3. Be concise– use bullet points where possible.
    
4. Tell us about your commitment, your policy, your employees’ involvement and their environmental contribution.
    
5. Let us know how you engage with customers, shareholders, suppliers and local community.
    
6. Show us what environmental benefits have been made and what economic savings have been achieved.
    
7. Shout about any innovative ideas that have been implemented, detailing any opportunities you have taken to replicate your actions or having shared your experiences with others.
    
8. Inform us of any future plans to build on your achievements.
    
9. Don’t panic! Focus on your organisation’s strong points and environmental benefits.
    
10. Prepare for a judges visit by involving employees during the visit and be proud of your operation and its achievements.
