27 April 2016

9 am. It is the launch of VIBES 2016 awards and the applications process starts. As a new member of the VIBES team, I am excited to launch the 2016 VIBES campaign. As the day starts, I am doing the final touches to the presentation and printing the last flyers I will need for the event and posting all the application forms and guidance notes on the website.

The VIBES awards attracts a diversity of businesses, creative and very inspiring, showing that regardless of the size, sector or location, a business reducing its environmental impact can benefit from economic and social benefits.

Having seen the previous winners’ case studies, I am really curious to see which Businesses will apply for one or more of the 9 award categories for VIBES 2016: 2016 Themed Innovation award, Management Large, Management SME, Best Environmental Product or Service, Circular Economy, Transport, Green teams, Micro Business, and the special charity award in collaboration with WaterAid.

2:30 pm. Banners, checked. Flyers, checked. Pens, checked.

We are ready to head out to the launch location: Vegware, winner of VIBES 2010 Micro Business Award and VIBES 2013 Waste and Resources Award.

We are welcomed by a buzzing team, celebrating their Queens Award. Lots of photo opportunities and tweets.

Once arrived, we pop up our banners and prepare the tea and coffee for our attendees.

4 pm. Time for me to present VIBES. 17th year of the award scheme. Going stronger and better. This partnership between Government and business organisations works hard to promote good practice, showcasing great examples of efficient use of resources, improve environmental performance and support the wider goals of sustainable development.

Talking about showcasing success, it is time for our two speakers today, Vegware and City Car Club, to present their work and experience of the VIBES awards.

Vegware develops, manufactures and distributes a full range of completely compostable food packaging and catering disposables. The products are plastic-free, low-carbon, made from recycled or renewable plant materials and all are suitable for composting along with food waste after use.

City Car Club in Edinburgh provides a short-term, self-service car and van rental to members for periods from half an hour to several days, 24/7 days a week, without the need to go to a central rental location to pick up a vehicle.

Does your business have what it takes? Jane answers by presenting the application process. Which category is the best for you? Where can I find help? All those questions get answered.
