ScottishPower has been confirmed as a sponsor for the 2012 Vision in Business for the Environment of Scotland (VIBES) Awards.

ScottishPower will sponsor the VIBES Environmental and Clean Technologies (ECT) Award. The ECT Award reflects how new technologies in alternative transport fuels, resource efficiency, environmental monitoring, or environmental building technologies can promote sustainable consumption and create new business opportunities.

The category is for all Scottish businesses which have developed technology that is close to market/proof of concept stage, and can demonstrate the environmental and economic benefits of their product.

ScottishPower is the largest onshore wind power developer in the UK and is the third largest electricity distributor. The company is part of the Iberdrola Group, the largest wind energy company in the world.

In 2009 ScottishPower Renewables received the VIBES International Co-operation Award in recognition of its partnership with Hammerfest Strom and Statoil, to install the UK’s first commercial scale demonstration of tidal power.

Gordon McGregor, Energy and Environment Director at ScottishPower, said “We are committed to helping Scotland and the UK achieve their carbon reduction targets, and we are investing substantially in low carbon energy initiatives.

“The VIBES awards highlight the very best environmental endeavors of organisations in Scotland. As an award sponsor, we would like to encourage businesses to enter this year’s awards to showcase their achievements in environmental and clean technology development.”
